Practical Data Interoperability for Earth Scientists

by Steve Olding last modified 2008-10-27 01:23 PM

GREENBELT, Md., 10/27/08 - The Technology Infusion Working Group has released a new guide for Earth science researchers and data centers.

The "Practical Data Interoperability for Earth Scientists" guide describes (briefly) several common technologies to make Earth science data more interoperable. These technologies include:

  • Data Formats (e.g., NetCDF, HDF)
  • Data Servers (e.g., OPeNDAP)
  • Data Interchange Tools (ESML and GDAL)

The aim is to encourage and help Earth scientists to make more of their data available in a form that is easily used with other data and by other tools.

About the Technology Infusion Working Group - The Technology Infusion Working Group (TIWG) is part of the Earth Science Data Systems Working Groups based at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. TIWG's members include NASA centers, educational institutions, national laboratories, and other technology centers specializing in Earth science research. Its mission is to enable NASA’s Earth Science community to reach its research, application, and education goals more quickly and cost effectively through widespread adoption of key emerging information technologies.
