Currently TRMM data processing has no plans for using HDF5-EOS. We do intend to recommend to the science team that TRMM data be converted to HDF5 in a logical format very similar to that currently being used for TRMM data. We do, however, intend to reduce the amount of metadata contained within the files. The earliest that HDF5 could be used for TRMM data is with our V7 reprocessing which can happen at the earliest at the end of 2009. We feel that HDF5 is ready for operational use and is already being used by NOAA in some precipitation files.

We do have an interest in HDF5-EOS if AMSRE data products are converted. However, we aren't really qualified to make a judgement as to the operational readiness of the product. I suspect that as long as an appropriate toolkit is provided, we can deal with the HDF5-EOS.
