The types of software made available for reuse.

Creating Reusable Software

A question earlier in the survey asked respondents what type of software they reused. We also asked them about the type of software they made available for reuse by others.

Types of Software Created for Reuse

Larger components such as sub-systems or components and complete solutions or applications were most frequently made available for reuse. This is in contrast with the previous question which indicated that people most often reuse smaller components.

Barriers to Making Software Available for Reuse

A variety of factors were seen as contributing to the difficulty of making software available for reuse, and many were rated at roughly the same importance. However, the two highest rated factors were support and maintenance issues and the cost of developing for reuse.
