How software artifacts are located.

Locating Reusable Software Development Artifacts

In order to determine how reusable artifacts are being located, we asked the respondents who did reuse software to rate the importance of various location methods.

Personal knowledge from past projects

Personal knowledge from past projects was the highest rated method with an average rating of slightly over "important".

Word of Mouth / Networking

Word of mouth or networking ranked second with an average rating of a little below "important".

Google search or similar

Using a Google search or similar method came in third with an average rating of about "somewhat important". Reuse catalog or repository

Finding software in reuse catalogs or repositories ranked last with an average rating of about "not very important".
