NPOESS Preparatory Project Science Data Segment

last modified 2009-10-23 12:05 PM

2009 Reuse Utilization Award Recipients (alphabetically): Gene Feldman, Steve Friedman, Evelyn Ho, Mary Hunter, Ed Masuoka, Curt Tilmes.

Utilization of heritage software by the NPP SDS Team at NASA Through the reuse of software including MODAPS, SeaWiFS ODPS, OMIDAPS, and AIRS software, the NPP SDS has quantifiably reduced the level of effort, schedule, and risk in developing systems for the NPP Science Data Segment. The reuse of existing assets as well as the knowledge and experience of the developers, many of whom were involved in developing the hertiage software, has resulted in development efforts as low as one tenth of the effort without reuse as estimated by the COCOMO model. Publications and presentations have promoted this reuse effort as an important project and documented the value of reuse for the Earth science community.
